San Diego can no longer afford to maintain 186 firepits on its beaches. People are up at arms.

If California simply got rid of Proposition 13, which prevents its towns and cities from tapping fully their natural revenue source, so many of California’s problems would evaporate.

This is just one good example.

California needs honest assessments of every piece of property, valuing the land first, at its market value – or better yet, at its annual rental value, which, as everyone can tell you, is a function of three things:

  • location;
  • location; and
  • location!

Those close to positive amenities – like the ocean and beaches with firepits maintained by the community at public expense – would be more valuable than those far from those amenities, and their taxes would vary with the value of the location. What could be simpler or more just, or more logical?

Which one of those do you think is the problem with this idea:
