I see a lot of articles, from many different states, which describe attempts to cap property taxes, end property taxes, lower property taxes. Most seek to replace them with wage taxes or sales taxes, or taxes on hotel guests and rental cars, or any number of other things. (Relatively few of the articles speak to reducing total taxes or total spending!)

I’ve come around to the point of view that the property tax is in serious need of reform, but that it is a far superior approach to collecting the revenue we need to fund public spending than the other alternatives available to us.

The purpose of this blog site is to share a perspective that might be of use to private individuals, community activists, participants in local and state government who mean to make their own towns and states better places to live for all their citizens, and to look at news stories and studies related to the property tax in light of that perspective.
