The Wealth and Want website is a collection of documents related to land value taxation. “Land” as it is used on the website is in the sense that the classical economists used the term. There are a few hundred documents on the site, some by Henry George (b. Philadelphia, 1839; d. NYC, 1897), some by contemporary Georgists, and some from the intervening period. (It is amazing what one can turn up on ebay, and testimony to how widely known these ideas were 100 years ago.)

In addition to the documents, there are hundreds of themes, which are indexed here. The list is long, and perhaps a bit daunting, but if you find just one that intrigues you, and follow the link, you’ll find, among other things, a list of related ideas in the right sidebar. Within a click or two, you’ll be at something that fits your interest, I hope. (That’s the goal, anyway.)

Within each theme page, you’ll find excerpts from various documents on the site – sometimes extended excerpts, sometimes short ones – which pertain to that theme, along with links to the documents themselves so that you can see each in context. The excerpts may come from different eras, and sometimes point in different directions, but will help flesh out the concepts. The themes system began with my assumption that I’d only need about 35 or so of them. So much for initial assumptions.

You’ll also find a lot of other material on the site – currently the front page is the best index to it.

It will become evident quickly that I am not a skilled webster. One of these days I’ll take some time off to beef up those skills, and improve the aesthetics a bit. For the moment, it seems more important to concentrate on the content.
